Herstory-Theirstory-Ourstory

Eminent domain is a powerful tool. When used within a systemically racist society it puts those of modest means and wealth of melanin at risk of injustice and exploitation.  How can landscape architects communicate what needs to be done to correct the wrongs our industry has perpetuated?

Maybe by holding up a mirror. And a revision of Herstory-Theirstory-Ourstory.

EXHIBIT A

Exhibit A shows a reversal of Central Parks eminent domain law that destroyed Seneca Village. In Central Park's place there is a thriving community. Around it, a massive park system.

EXHIBIT B

Exhibit B  shows the I-4 corridor in Orlando cutting through an Historic Black Community.

What if the tables were turned? Showing that same corridor cutting through Winter Park is a redirection of policies that have disadvantaged poor and working class-melanin rich communities in Orlando.
